A River Runs Through LA ~ with Jenny Price

Spring 2007 ~ 03.19.07

The sewer-like nature of the concrete L.A. River has made it one of the most hopeless places in Los Angeles. But now it's becoming an enormously hopeful place, as the ambitious plans to revitalize this city's major river--quixotic enough to make Don Quixote look timid--have quickly become the most ambitious vision to enhance the city's social and environmental health. We'll visit the river and have a crash course on its centrality to L.A.'s history, ecology, social geography, economy, and image, and on the plans to renew the river. Then we'll explore (getting wet is a possibility). Finally, we'll hone in on the importance of art to the revitalization efforts, and engage in exercises to put your artistic practices to work.
