Anko de Graaf {Animal Lessons, Utrecht}

Anko de Graaff works as a researcher at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Utrecht. He specialises in microscopic techniques. In his free time he studies and photographs butterflies. He is the author of the book Vlinders in de Gelderse Vallei , which appeared last year, and he regularly writes articles on butterflies for the newspaper in Barneveld. In addition he organises butterfly excursions, butterfly courses and lectures. He is coordinator of the butterfly work group of the IVN in his home town of Barneveld. This butterfly work group inventories butterflies in the Gelderse Valley and the Veluwe for the Butterfly Foundation and the Dutch Forestry Service. In addition, the butterfly work group participates in monitoring research on the Alcon Blue ( Glaucopsyche alcon ) and Tree Grayling (Hipparchia statilinus) butterflies.

Anko de Graaff is werkzaam als onderzoeksmedewerker bij de Faculteit Diergeneeskunde van de Universiteit Utrecht. Hij is gespecialiseerd in microscopische technieken. In zijn vrije tijd bestudeerd en fotografeert hij vlinders. Hij is auteur van het boek “Vlinders in de Gelderse Vallei” dat vorig jaar is verschenen en hij schrijft regelmatig artikelen over vlinders in de Barneveldse krant. Daarnaast verzorgt hij vlinderexcursies, vlindercursussen en lezingen. Hij is coördinator van de vlinderwerkgroep van het IVN in zijn woonplaats Barneveld. Deze vlinderwerkgroep inventariseert vlinders in de Gelderse Vallei en op de Veluwe voor de Vlinderstichting en Staatsbosbeheer. Daarnaast doet de vlinderwerkgroep mee aan monitoringonderzoek van het gentiaanblauwtje en de kleine heivlinder.
