Erica Browne was born in Madison, and is currently a Brooklyn based artist. She has spent the last two years creating environments for deceased animals. After several years working in the exhibits department at the Bronx Zoo, Erica became exposed to many unique animals in the collection. Drawn to those less exotic, she was inspired by the prey, animals traditionally used for food at the zoo. These creatures make appearances in her dark narrative pieces in the form of experimental taxidermy.   She is interested in the preservation of the undesirable, by showcasing it in a simple and elegant habitat.

Before moving to New York, Erica attended the College of Santa Fe, receiving a B.F.A. in mixed media. Her first classical training in the arts began at Interlochen Arts Camp, a defining moment sparking the desire to make things whenever possible. Ten years later, she has worked with contemporary artists Robert Lazzerini and Terrance Koh. Currently assisting Fritz Haeg on Animal Estates, Erica is also applying to graduate programs and preparing for a show next year in Los Angeles.
