Bieringa {Dancing
9 to 5} is a dance and video artist based originally
from New Zealand. She is a recipient of a 2006 BAX Passing It On Award. Her
current solo Condition investigates the ecological entwinement of self, other
and environment through anatomical and scientific enquiry. She co-directs the
BodyCartography Project with Otto Ramstad. They build dance works and film/video
works that investigate the bodies' relationship to the physical, architectural,
climatic, technological and social landscapes in urban/wilderness and private/public
contexts. Since 1998 they have created more than 140 events in the US, Canada,
Brazil, New Zealand, Japan, Europe, and Russia. They have received a 2006 Minnesota
Sage People's Choice award for Walker Art Center/ Southern Theater commission
Holiday House. A 2005 Certificate of Merit from the Dancing of Camera Festival
at the American Dance Festival, a 2003 Perlourus Trust Award at the NZ Fringe
Festival. Her work is supported by the Jerome Foundation, Creative New Zealand
amongst others.
