Fifteen years ago I moved to the Voordorp neighborhood in Utrecht, in an ecological project of 66 houses. Since then, principally in my free time, I count the special and vulnerable bird species in my neighbourhood and its immediate vicinity. Until now the Common Swift has not been in this list of special summer birds, but that is almost certainly going to change since the nesting box project! Professionally I inventory butterflies, dragonflies and grasshoppers, and I advise conservation agencies, governmental bodies and individuals regarding nature conservancy and nature development.

Vijftien jaar geleden ben ik komen wonen in de wijk Voordorp in Utrecht in een ecologisch woonproject van 66 huizen. Sindsdien tel ik, vooral in mijn vrije tijd, de bijzondere (kwetsbare) vogelsoorten in mijn wijk en de directe omgeving. Gierzwaluwen ontbraken tot nu toe in het rijtje bijzondere broedvogels, maar dat gaat wellicht sinds het nestkastenproject veranderen! Beroepshalve inventariseer ik dagvlinders, libellen en sprinkhanen en adviseer ik natuurbeschermingsinstanties, overheidsorganen en particulieren over natuurbeheer en natuurontwikkeling.
