SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE

The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum / June 27th, 2010 - January 2nd, 2011 / DOWNLOAD EXHIBITION POSTER-BROCHURE PDF

Places to learn & teach, compost & grow food, move & dance, gather & converse, and host native flying squirrels are installed throughout the indoor and outdoor public spaces of the museum, which was originally a private residence. (Aldrich "Something for Everyone" Flickr page)

DANCING BOARDWALK: FOLLOW THE LEADER - Assemble a group of friends or strangers, get up on the dancing boardwalk and start to move in the same direction, following the exact pace, movements, gestures, steps, and attitude of the person in front of you as closely as possible, and after a while you might ask, who is leading and who is following. (see preliminary video)

ANIMAL ESTATES: FLYING SQUIRREL - Be on the look out for the Northern Flying Squirrels (Glaucomys sabrinus), native to this region, who have moved into the series of Animal Estates located on posts directly behind the museum in the location of their previous home, a massive old tree recently removed after a long illness. (more on Animal Estates)

SUNDOWN SALON: RIDGEFIELD, CT - Make yourself at home in a Ridgefield family’s living room, now relocated to the lobby of the museum while their vacated living space, now furnished with a simple seating system, becomes the site for a series of self-organized salon gatherings hosted by the family. (more on Sundown Salon)

EDIBLE ESTATE #9: ALDRICH STAFF GARDENS & COMPOST - Watch, smell, feel, and even taste, as the Aldrich Museum staff grows their own food in their new Edible Estate garden, nourished by the compost being made at the museums front door from their very own kitchen scraps, coffee grounds, and yard clippings. Here is a regional planting calendar of edibles, and special thanks to Garden of Ideas for their contributions to the project. (see more information on Edible Estates - and follow the photo stream of garden progress here)

SUNDOWN SCHOOLHOUSE: THE ALDRICH WORKSHOPS - Do you have a skill or interest that you’d like to share with others? Or perhaps something you’d like to learn more about? Visit the geodesic tent on the museum’s front lawn from July 2nd until early October, from Fridays to Sundays, noon until 1:30pm, for a series of casual classes, workshops, and seminars lead by locals*. (more on Sundown Schoolhouse) * Open call to use the Schoolhouse dome for your workshops - see details on the Aldrich Museum website.
