(where she lived until 1968, running the\u00a0Art Department at Immaculate Heart College) and where you can still feel her influence in the air.<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.brainpickings.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/10\/10-rules-for-students-and-teachers-john-cage-corita-kent\/\"><em>Immaculate Heart College Art Department Rules<\/em><\/a><em>:<\/em><\/em><br \/>\n<em>RULE 1: Find a place you trust, and then try trusting it for awhile.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>RULE 2: General duties of a student \u2014 pull everything out of your teacher; pull everything out of your fellow students.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>RULE 3: General duties of a teacher \u2014 pull everything out of your students.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>RULE 4: Consider everything an experiment.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>RULE 5: Be self-disciplined \u2014 this means finding someone wise or smart and choosing to follow them. To be disciplined is to follow in a good way. To be self-disciplined is to follow in a better way.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>RULE 6: Nothing is a mistake. There\u2019s no win and no fail, there\u2019s only make.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>RULE 7: The only rule is work. If you work it will lead to something. It\u2019s the people who do all of the work all of the time who eventually catch on to things.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>RULE 8: Don\u2019t try to create and analyze at the same time. They\u2019re different processes.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>RULE 9: Be happy whenever you can manage it. Enjoy yourself. It\u2019s lighter than you think.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>RULE 10: \u201cWe\u2019re breaking all the rules. Even our own rules. And how do we do that? Look at movies carefully, often.
