{"id":7188,"date":"2011-07-10T23:17:47","date_gmt":"2011-07-11T06:17:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.fritzhaeg.com\/wikidiary\/?p=7188"},"modified":"2011-07-14T05:55:39","modified_gmt":"2011-07-14T12:55:39","slug":"on-july-10th-2011-la-biennale-di-venezia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fritzhaeg.com\/archive\/2011\/07\/10\/on-july-10th-2011-la-biennale-di-venezia\/","title":{"rendered":"On July 10th, 2011, LA BIENNALE DI VENEZIA&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_7189\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7189\" style=\"width: 202px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fritzhaeg.com\/wikidiary\/2011\/07\/10\/on-july-10th-2011-la-biennale-di-venezia\/2011-07-10-p1230612\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-7189\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-7189\" title=\"Elad Lassry's &quot;Untitled (Ghost)&quot;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.fritzhaeg.com\/wikidiary\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/2011-07-10-P1230612-202x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"202\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fritzhaeg.com\/archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/2011-07-10-P1230612-202x150.jpg 202w, https:\/\/www.fritzhaeg.com\/archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/2011-07-10-P1230612.jpg 2000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 202px) 100vw, 202px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-7189\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Elad Lassry at the Arsenale with &quot;Untitled (Ghost)&quot;, 2011. 35 mm color film (1.33 full frame), 18&#39;, silent.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&#8230;is mostly my reason for stopping off on my way north to Germany &#8211; to my old island home (from 1990-91 while studying at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iuav.it\/homepage\/\" target=\"_blank\">I.U.A.V.<\/a> &#8211; though it sure has changed in that short time &#8211; with the tourist mobs now seeming to run the place) since I avoided the stresses and crowds of the June opening in favor of a later viewing con calma &#8211; and despite some rather pessimistic informal anecdotal reviews from friends, I was happy to have some time spent with a few personal highlights, such as Mike Nelson&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/artanddesign\/2011\/jun\/03\/mike-nelson-venice-biennale\" target=\"_blank\">dream-like Istanbul-like other-world-within-a-British-Pavilion-world installation<\/a>, Gelitin&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gelitin.net\/mambo\/index.php?set_albumName=album32&amp;option=com_gallery_proj144&amp;Itemid=91&amp;include=view_album.php\" target=\"_blank\">Gelitin Pavillion<\/a> which seemed like the only place in the Biennial where I&#8217;d really like to spend some time and hang out, though I&#8217;m really sorry to have missed the glass-blowing, performances, music, fire-tending, and requisite public nudity from the opening; Urs Fischer&#8217;s really cool <a href=\"http:\/\/www.designboom.com\/weblog\/cat\/10\/view\/15021\/urs-fischer-at-venice-art-biennale-2011.html\" target=\"_blank\">half-melted baroque sculpture candles<\/a> boasting their own full time Vigili del Fuoce attendants in case something goes wrong; the mountian of houseplants in front of the Dutch pavilion; the amazing crowds of black tadpoles trying to find shade in the stagnent giardini reflecting pools (but I don&#8217;t think that was &#8216;art&#8217;); but especially Elad Lassry&#8217;s silent dance film&#8221;<em>Untitled (Ghost)<\/em>&#8221; which had me transfixed and truly happy for the first time that day &#8211; one of many great folks representin&#8217; L.A. like Shannon Ebner and Frances Stark.
