{"id":9117,"date":"2012-02-08T06:49:37","date_gmt":"2012-02-08T14:49:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.fritzhaeg.com\/wikidiary\/?p=9117"},"modified":"2012-02-11T11:17:42","modified_gmt":"2012-02-11T19:17:42","slug":"on-february-8th-2012-detroits-power-house","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fritzhaeg.com\/archive\/2012\/02\/08\/on-february-8th-2012-detroits-power-house\/","title":{"rendered":"On February 8th, 2012, DETROIT&#8217;S POWER HOUSE&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_9120\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9120\" style=\"width: 375px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fritzhaeg.com\/wikidiary\/2012\/02\/08\/on-february-8th-2012-detroits-power-house\/2012-02-08-p1300312\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-9120\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-9120\" title=\"Power House Productions \" src=\"http:\/\/www.fritzhaeg.com\/wikidiary\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/2012-02-08-P1300312-375x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"375\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fritzhaeg.com\/archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/2012-02-08-P1300312-375x150.jpg 375w, https:\/\/www.fritzhaeg.com\/archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/2012-02-08-P1300312.jpg 2000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 375px) 100vw, 375px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-9120\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">winter scene at Power House Productions headquarters<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&#8230;established in 2006 by extreme urban-adventure-seeking visionary revolutionary activist artist and architect duo Mitch Cope and Gina Reichert, headquartered in a gradually evolving powerhouse laboratory with\u00a0veggie garden beds flanking a boat sculpture in front of pastel striped siding topped by a new system of passive\/active solar roofing &#8211; spawned a whole city quarter (as yet unnamed) of like-minded activity, and was perhaps my most vivid mental image of the &#8216;new&#8217; Detroit before arriving &#8211; where yesterday afternoon Gina graciously gathered a group of neighborhood artist colleagues, then retreating to their nearby storefront\/home for tea, including\u00a0old friend Jon Brumit (of <a href=\"http:\/\/dflux.org\/1.html\" target=\"_blank\">Dflux<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jonbrumit.com\/HUNDRED-DOLLAR-HOUSE.html\" target=\"_blank\">The 100$ House<\/a>), <a href=\"http:\/\/graemwhyte.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Graem Whyte<\/a> &amp;\u00a0Faina Lerman (of <a href=\"http:\/\/poppspacking.blogspot.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Popps Packing<\/a> &#8211; &#8216;the ultimate laboratory for artists&#8217; &#8211; plus the upcoming down-the-street <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pages\/Squash-House\/191985967531291\" target=\"_blank\">Squash House,<\/a> a special place for both the vegetable and the sport), Kate Daughdrill (of <a href=\"http:\/\/detroitsoup.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Detroit Soup<\/a> and the upcoming <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cpadetroit.org\/2011\/09\/edible-hut-for-the-osborne-community\/\" target=\"_blank\">Edible Hut<\/a>), Scott Hocking (whose iconic <a href=\"http:\/\/scotthocking.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">images of, projects in, and use of materials from, the abandoned buildings <\/a>of Detroit have become iconic), Zeb Smith, and Dutch visitor Erik Jutten, to help me get a sense of what exactly is going on in this town &#8211; and float ideas for the fall 2012 project plans that could possibly involve working with many local collaborative cultural collectives&#8230;(and if that wasn&#8217;t enough for one day, I earlier met <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fritzhaeg.com\/wikidiary\/2012\/02\/07\/on-february-7th-2012-detroits-african-bead-museum\/\" target=\"_blank\">Dabls at his museum<\/a>; Jon Brumit and\u00a0Katie McGowan at <a href=\"http:\/\/mocadetroit.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">MOCAD<\/a>, and later <a href=\"http:\/\/detroitgroundzero.blogspot.com\/2010\/12\/steve-hughes-writer-and-publisher-of.html\" target=\"_blank\">Steve Hughes<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/carriedickason.com\/home.html\" target=\"_blank\">Carrie Dickason<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/paperhelmets.com\/home.html\" target=\"_blank\">Jessica Frelinghuysen<\/a> at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.modeldmedia.com\/devnews\/pool032310.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Public Pool<\/a>; and finally Leon Johnson and Megan O&#8217;Connell for a delicious loftmade dinner and tour of their new start-up press and gallery <a href=\"http:\/\/www.signalreturnpress.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Signal-Return<\/a> &#8211; now featuring an Alison Knowles show &#8211; in the warehouse meat-packing district of Eastern Market&#8230;.whew &#8211; what a town of energetic folks!)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.powerhouseproject.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>POWER HOUSE PRODUCTIONS<\/em><\/a><br \/>\n<em> Neighborhood stabilization and revitalization through the arts and creative enterprises.
